Texas A&M University-Commerce issued the following announcement.

Two research projects submitted by A&M-Commerce students participating in the university’s summer 2021 National Research Experience for Undergraduates program in mathematics were selected for pre-recorded presentations at the Young Mathematicians Conference at Ohio State University, held virtually August 20-22.

Mathematics and computer science major Victor Ezem and computer science major Ashlee Story presented “Properties and Parameters of Codes from Unit Graphs of Zn Group.” Associate professor of mathematics, Padmapani Seneviratne, Ph.D., served as faculty mentor.

Haley Bambico and Sarah Gross—both majoring in mathematics—along with Francis Hall, who is majoring in mathematics and physics, presented “Generalization of the Excess Area and its Geometric Interpretation.” They were mentored by associate professor of mathematics, Mehmet Celik, Ph.D.

Celik said, considering the stringent review process, the students can be proud of their accomplishment. “In past years, only about 50% of the projects submitted were selected for presentation,” he reports.
