Weatherford Independent School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
Weatherford ISD is now offering free breakfast and lunch to all students through the end of the 2020-2021 school year (or while USDA funds are available). This offer is made possible because of a nationwide USDA waiver issued to provide funding that allows the Weatherford ISD Child Nutrition Department to serve free meals to all students.
Free breakfast and lunch will be available for in-person learners in the school cafeteria and students enrolled in the WISD Virtual Learning Academy on school days. Meals are not available on weekends or student holidays.
Virtual learners and anyone 18 years and younger may pick up meals on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the front entrance of the Curtis Elementary School campus located at 501 W. Russell Street. On Mondays, breakfast and lunch will be provided for two days, and on Wednesdays, breakfast and lunch will be provided for three days. All children 18 years or younger are eligible for the curbside pickup meals at no charge. Documentation providing guardianship is required if a parent picks up meals without a student present: student ID, student ID number, report card, Skyward Family Access enrollment page, or birth certificate.
A la carte items available in school cafeterias are not included with the free breakfast or lunch meal but will continue to be available for purchase.
The Child Nutrition Department encourages families to continue to submit meal applications for the Free and Reduced Meal Program so that qualifying students will still receive meal benefits for 30 days of the new school year or when USDA funds are no longer available.
