Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) last month led a bipartisan push to give craft beverage producers permanent tax relief.
Williams, a Republican, and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colorado) were among the more than 130 lawmakers to sign a letter requesting Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and several key House leaders to support House Resolution 1175, or the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act.
Williams said he represents a district full of craft beverage producers and distilleries that are pillars in the community.
“Having already felt the devastating effects of COVID-19, a 400% tax increase on their growing industry next year would be catastrophic – not only to them, but to businesses who rely on them for support,” he said on his website. “I’m proud to work alongside these entrepreneurs to roll back regulations and burdensome taxes that put economic growth and Texas jobs at risk.”
The Sledge Distillery in Tolar is a supporter of the resolution, saying that tax relief would help it expand its business.
